Peter Coates Lecture

In this series of lectures PKUK wishes to recognize the contributions and influence of the late Peter E Coates to the theory and practice of PKPD.

Although Peter spent his early years in San Francisco working with some of the giants of PKPD, it is for his distinguished career as a Clinical Pharmacology Leader in the Pharmaceutical Industry that he is most well-known (his industry affiliations included Napp, Beecham, Smith Kline Beecham, Pfizer and latterly GSK).

A few of his most cited publications are listed below:

Upton R., Sansom L., Guentert T., Powell R., Thiercelin J-F., Shah V., Coates P., Riegelman S. Evaluation of the absorption from 15 commercial theophylline products indicating deficiencies in currently applied bioavailability criteria, Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics (1980) 8: 229. doi:10.1007/BF01059644

British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, (1981), 11: 187-195. doi:10.1111/j.1365-2125.1981.tb01123.x

With his passing in 2006 PKUK initiated this series of lectures where each year an invited speaker could in turn be recognised for their contributions to the theory and practice of PKPD.

PKUK would like to acknowledge and thank GSK for their continued support of the Peter Coates lecture.
