Welcome to the Pharmacokinetics UK Website

About PKUK

Pharmacokinetics UK (PKUK) was a spin out from the DMDG (Drug Metabolism Discussion Group) in the early 80s (exact date is still under debate!). The original idea came from Roger Metcalf, who used to head up DMPK at Smith-Kline & French. It was felt at the time that DMDG was not adequately addressing the issues related to PKPD problems, particularly within the pharmaceutical industry, and there was a need for a more specialized meeting with an emphasis on PKPD.

Prior to the first 'Open' PKUK (held in 1987) there had been series of 'Discussion Group' PKUK meetings which were by invitation only. Founders and invitees included Leon Aarons, Geoff Tucker, Bob Ings, Steve Toon, Lloyd Stevens, Brian Whiting, Peter Meredith, Keith Godfrey, Jean-Louis Steimer and Theresa Shepard.

Since 1987 PKUK, as a non-profit organization, has been responsible for arranging an annual meeting to serve as an open forum for discussing PKPD related matters concerning research, development, application & usage, methodologies, conduct, practice & policy etc.

The PKUK meetings are typically organized in the form of 4 half-day sessions from the Wednesday lunch time to Friday lunch time, usually in November across a variety of UK venues. Invited plenary lectures and short oral presentations of scientific reports related to the area comprise main body of the events. Poster sessions are organized alongside a free bar in evening of the first day!

The themes for the sessions and location of the meeting are decided by the PKUK Committee considering the feedback and input from the participants of the meetings and registered scientists of PKUK mailing list.
